To be considered all candidates must complete the National Testing Network (NTN) CPAT, Fire Team Testing, and the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and select for their scores to be sent to the Nestucca Rural Fire Protection District via the NTN website. Internal applicants with a current physical on file may bypass the NTN CPAT requirement.

Required Qualifications (Pro Board, IFSAC, NFPA, or DPSST):

Preference Points: Earn up to 5% of total points for each of the following:

  • Current NRFPD Residents and Volunteers with 1 year of service in good standing.
  • Military Veterans (ORS 408.230).
  • Additional points for Disabled Military Veterans (ORS 408.230).

Starting Salary: $51,452.07 + Certification Bonuses (If Applicable)

48 hours on 96 hours off Shift Schedule

  • Holiday Pay: 12 hours per month.
  • Sick Leave: 14 hours per month.

This is a bargaining position with the IAFF Local 5169.

Department Overview: The Nestucca Rural Fire Protection District is a leading-edge emergency services agency, renowned for its commitment to community safety and innovation. Our strong team consists of a fire chief, a deputy chief, two division chiefs, one administrative assistant, one accountant, nine career firefighters, three resident firefighters, and 35 dedicated volunteers. We operate from six strategically positioned stations and manage a comprehensive fleet of 24 emergency apparatus.

Our services encompass a broad spectrum of emergency response needs, including fire suppression, medical emergencies, water rescue, rope rescue, vehicle rescue, and drone response. We are at the forefront of incorporating new technologies and best practices to enhance our service delivery. Our proactive approach ensures that we are prepared for a wide range of emergency scenarios, providing our community with unparalleled safety and support.

Area Information: Nestled in South Tillamook County, our district spans over 125 square miles of incorporated and 225 square miles of unincorporated areas. We are situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal Mountain Range, encompassing a diverse landscape of state and federal forests, the Sandlake Sand Dunes state park, wetlands, rivers, creeks, bays, and major transportation routes including an interstate highway and two state highways. Our region also features over 100 farms, a small airport, and a national wildlife refuge.

Our service area is rich in recreational opportunities, from fishing and hunting to surfing and paragliding. The diverse landscape supports activities such as boating, kayaking, crabbing, clamming, scuba diving, hiking, ATV riding on sand dunes, and whale and bird watching. Tourism is a significant component of our community, with numerous vacation rentals and second homes contributing to the local economy. The average home price in our area is approximately $675,000. We work collaboratively with various agencies, including Tillamook County Ambulance, Tillamook County Sheriff, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Forestry, US Forest Service, US Coast Guard, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon State Fire Marshal, Tillamook County Public Works, Oregon State Parks, Tillamook County Parks Department, LifeFlight, and Pacific West Ambulance.
